Tips and ideas for creating fun and memorable invites.

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when hearing the word “sweet?” Maybe it’s candy, chocolate, fruit, desserts or maybe even the scent of flowers. Whatever it may be, the idea is to make the invitations memorable – sweet, personal and creative.

Turning 16 is not just an ordinary occasion for a girl. It represents a coming-of-age that marks the beginning of womanhood and maturity. Different cultures have similar celebrations, though the age may slightly vary. Latin cultures celebrate the Quinceañera, which is when a girl turns 15, and Filipinos celebrate the Debut, which is when a girl turns 18 – both of which are elaborate celebrations. Thus, a big sweet 16 is worth planning for.

Sweet 16 Invitation Style and Theme

If the party is for both guys and girls, having two different versions of the invites may be an appealing idea to those who wish to go all out – a simple version for boys and a more feminine version for girls. Or consider creative invitations that are gender neutral. This means leaving out the color pink and any designs with flower patterns. The invitation designs can be related to the party theme, if there is any. Or try a simple design of patterns and textures with the basic who, what, where, when and why.

Sweet 16 Invitation Ideas

Remember not to be limited by the traditional card and envelope approach. Think out of the box and let the invitations ooze with personality. This makes it fun and creates excitement for the big day. Some creative ideas include:

  • Lollipop attached with a sticker or tag that has the printed information.
  • A letterhead rolled up like a scroll and tied with an organza or grosgrain ribbon.
  • Personalized mint tins that have a message about the party celebration. (Visit Sweet 16 Party Favors for more product ideas)
  • Baked sugar cookies placed in each bag with a ribbon and card tag about the event.
  • Designing your own card by making a Sweet 16 collage and have it color-copied at a local print shop.
  • Handmade cards with glued on objects and/or sweets such as cupcake sprinkles and other hard sweets.

Depending on the scope and style of the party, the wording can be divided into two categories: formal and informal. A formal style adds a hint of maturity: “You are cordially invited to my Sweet 16.” Casual wording adds a fun element: “Save the date for my oh-so Sweet 16!”

And keep in mind that, in the end, it’s not about making the prettiest invitations but having fun and enjoying a milestone birthday with good company.
